David Alais is Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Sydney. He studies how the brain uses images and sounds to build a perception of the world around us.

He has a particular interest in ambiguities in perception and explores the limits of our awareness and the role of guesswork and prediction in filling-in the blanks.

He spent a decade working overseas in the USA, France and Italy with world leaders in the field and now heads an active multisensory research group in Sydney investigating vision, touch and hearing. He is fascinated by exciting new advances in the neuroscience of imagination and creativity and loves to get off campus to share the power of these insights with general audiences.
